While travelling along the highway on a cold bare prairie night, close to Christmas time, I was overwhelmed by the beautiful farm home lights that lit up the way as I drove on. It was warming to my soul.

Lyrics

All the way, across the prairies, lights are bright tonight
Yellow, red, and blue, and green, what a winter scene
Night time now has fallen still, as so the winter snow
Christmas on the prairies, my heart is headin home

Traffic on the highways now, has all but disappeared
Fam'lies gathered all together, with the ones they love
Thoughts go to the loved ones resting deep beneath the snow
Mem'ries come alive again, of Christmases long ago

And it's, Christmas on the prairies, everybody's home
Warmin up by the fire side, no one wants to be alone
Christmas on the prairies, is the place I want to be
Christmas on the prairies, is where I, want to be

Sleigh bells ringin merrily, crispy evening air
Snuggled in the straw bales, with frost upon your nose
Sittin 'round the camp fire watchin sparks up to the sky
Hot dogs and hot chocolate, singing carols until we sigh

Now every year, we stop to say, on this Christmas day
Thanks to God, for sending us, His precious loving Son
Born under a prairie sky, much the same as ours
Calm and clear, with stars ablaze, as on that special eve

(Chorus)

Christmas on the prairies, is where I . . . I wanna be
